In early 2009 I expanded my price list to include a few more SMW Nikki models, as well as a handful of new options for most of them. This was an effort to offer customers a broader choice to meet their needs and budget. Once you've decided on your needs and budget, study the price chart carefully. Take into consideration the finishes available along with the options. I'll listen to reasonable requests for special applications, especially because I know what it's like to have a limited budget for a rotary habit. But please do me a favor and study everything first before asking me to make an exception, otherwise I'll simply refer you to  the chart again. I'm constantly flooded with emails about SMW Nikki choices that are clearly on my website. However, when enough people ask me the same thing, I do take that to mean I need to change the presentation or add something for clarity. An example of when a customer has not studied the SMW Nikki Details & Price List  is when I recieve an email asking for a deal on some performance modifications made to the more affordable Bare Nikki. In this case, he has completely overlooking the choice of the Pro7 - IT7 Nikki, which is essentially the same as a Bare Nikki with a few modifications.

I will forever remain a "back yard mechanic". I don't ever expect to grow into such a large operation that I would lose one on one touch with my customers. But as my business has grown, I've had to schedule my time more carefully. I have found that my "lost time" is mostly spent answering emails regarding carburetors and order questions. I've since tried my best to automate this process while still maintaining that important personal contact. When I redesigned the website I sought advice from several sources, all of which insisted the best way to accomplish any automation was to install a standard shopping & checkout page. Instead, I've chosen to revamp my price list into a chart that includes more models and even some options in hopes that folks will be able to find a choice that fits their budget and carburetor needs, even though it makes things on my end a bit more complicated.

However, I still get emails from folks who simply have not bothered to read the rest of the website. They email with questions about orders (or post ordering questions on my forum), and with very few exceptions, the answers are already right here.

So I ask that you please use the 'Place an Order' button at the bottom of the menu buttons list. This will direct you through my disclaimer, my warranty, my core exchange policy, with the last step being an email sent to me with a specific subject field entry. I can tell by the subject field entry whether or not you have bothered to read what I need you to know before ordering.

I do not conduct business through other forums. When customers use forum mail to contact me, I always have the customer email me. Then I set up an email file for him, and place his order on my spread sheet with all the details.

When you finally place your order I will need to know the carburetor year you need because not all manifolds, port plates and carbs are interchangeable; the year of the core you are sending (if you will be sending one, READ THE CORE EXCHANGE POLICY!), just for my own records of what I can expect to have on stock in the future; your address for shipping, or at least your location according the Shipping section of the SMW Nikki Details & Price List so I can give you an accurate estimate; your engine & car application so I can jet your carburetor accordingly or make suggestions; and your forum alias(es) so I might become familiar with who you are (I may already know your car / carburetor history from the forums).

I have strived for years to learn and research as much as I can about these carburetors, and I have always shared that information. I built a name for myself not from my carburetor work, but from the carburetor help I have given to rotary enthusiasts who are regular folks like myself. It has been my small business' "mission statement" to continue to offer that help and support to anyone with a Nikki carbureted rotary engine. This means that unlimited after-sales technical support simply must be part of my relation with each SMW Nikki customer. But alas, time IS money, as they say, so I have laid nearly everything I know about carburetion, the induction needs of the Mazda rotary engine, and the Nikki carburetor out on my website; THIS website. As much as I wish to maintain that exemplary after-sales technical support that is so hard to find in anywhere other than those of grass roots operations run by fellow enthusiasts, I simply must insist that you search through my website and lear all you can before bombarding me withy questions. I have had email dialogs of well over 80 exchanges surrounding just one sale where my net profit was $320.00. When my hourly rate drops down to less than $4.00 an hour, it's time to insist my customers help me out by reading my website.

The 10 Basic Steps to Ordering

  1. Decide on your carburetor choice. Email me with questions. (My email address is found at the bottom of every page.)
  2. Hit the 'Place an Order' button, and follow the 'Continue' buttons after carefully reading each page.
  3. Give all the details described above in the email you've been redirected to, and wait for a response.
  4. Pay me via PayPal. (Don't just send money! My PayPal account is a different email address.)
  5. Wait anxiously, but patiently.
  6. Get your shiny new SMW Nikki in the mail & install it. Installation, troubleshooting and tuning instructions are all here on this site.
  7. Email me directly with any problems. Be nice to me and don't take problems directly to the forums. Give me first dibs on helping you.
  8. Enjoy yummy go-fastness. (Be careful!)
  9. After your thirty day money back return policy expires, make the choice as to whether or not you'll sell me a core for an SMW check in the amount of $80.00. (Please let me know first!)
  10. Brag to others about the performance you're getting with a Nikki carburetor.

May 12, 2009-

Due to a lack of core returns, I am forced to raise the core return amount, thust raising the price of each SMW model Nikki carburetor. This is in an effort to compell customers to return cores to me so I may continue building Nikkis. Though the overall price of the SMW Nikkis have increased, when the core refund is issued, the price of each model carburetor will be the same as it has been. If you have a good core that meets the standards of acceptability laid out in the SMW Core Exchange Policy, you may send it in advance and your price will be reduced by $80.00. I will continue to do everything I can to maintain as low a price as possible in an effort to remain the biggest rotary performance increase for your dollar.

SMW Nikki Carburetors

Stock Nikki: This is a plain old Nikki carb, with all the stock bells & whistles. It can pass emissions testing, but I do not guaranty that (due to a myriad of other variables over which I have no control).

Bare Nikki: This is a stock Nikki stripped right down of all it's extraneous, non-essential components. Everything is sealed up with epoxy. Some options are available for this carb (see chart). Don't bother trying to squeeze more options out of me - It ain't happening!

Sterling Nikki: This is my performance modified version of the Nikki carburetor. There's a whole long page dedicated to explaining the modifications that I make on these, so I'm not going into detail here. Some options are available for this carb (see chart).

As I explain below, it's priced inconsistently low compared to everything else I offer. This is because I made a promise to keep that price low, and if I had my way, all I would be building is Sterling Nikkis.

Sleeper Nikki: This is a pure stock carburetor complete with all the bells & whistles, but with every performance modification found on the Sterling Nikki. This will not be able to pass emissions testing, as far as I know. Some options are available for this carb (see chart).

Spec 7 Nikki: This carb is the same as stock, but with special attention paid to the fact that it must be SCCA class compliant. The bill of sale will state that this is a Spec 7 Nikki.  Some options are available for this carb (see chart).

Pro7 - IT7 Nikki: This is basically a Bare Nikki with some of the Sterling Nikki modifications allowed by the SCCA class rules. The bill of sale will state that this is a Pro 7 / IT7 Nikki. Some options are available for this carb (see chart).

Your Nikki: This is the carburetor you send me for rebuilding. I don't offer modifications for it because ultimately it would make more sense financially for you just to use it as a core (as per my core exchange policy), and just order whichever carburetor you want. This is offered as a "rebuild-only" service, and it's the only way I'll ship out a carburetor just as dirty and greasy as it came into my shop.

If you have a special case where you must keep the original carburetor, such as a full-on restoration or completely original application, we can work out some modifications in a package. But that will be more expensive than simply ordering a "Sleeper Nikki", for example, for reasons outlined in the SMW Nikki Service Pricing section below. And usually, when someone is concerned about keeping their car original, they are not apt to modify the original carburetor anyway, as it can't ever be "unmodified" using the original parts.

Types of Finish

Rebuilt: It's just that; You send it in and I rebuild it. I don't degrease it. I scrape off excess gunk or spritz it with some carb cleaner & compressed air only to make sure I don't contaminate the inside during the rebuild, but that's it. Though I offer this as an affordable option for folks in need of a rebuild, I do suggest cleaning it up a bit before sending it.

Even though degreasing a carburetor is my least favorite part of the job, I do not recommend this option unless you are strapped for cash, have an exceptionally clean carburetor, or have already cleaned it yourself.

Overhauled:  The carb is completely broken down and degreased before being rebuilt. The air horn, main body and linkage is painted silver and the throttle body painted clear or black. Other color schemes are available upon request.

The finish of an Overhauled SMW Nikki is not covered under the warranty, and I will not return funds for dissatisfaction of the finish after thirty days.

Plated & Painted:  The same as "Overhauled", with the exception of the brackets, linkages and bolts being sand blasted, acid dipped and electroplated before being painted with clearcoat. The Main body and air horn are finished with sliver engine paint.

The finish of an "Plated & Painted" SMW Nikki is not covered under the warranty, and I will not return funds for dissatisfaction of the finish after thirty days.
