I understand that SMW does not condone or promote unsanctioned street racing, or any activity that breaks federal, state or local laws with respect to motor vehicle inspection and operation, blah blah blah... In other words, all the stuff I do to my car, I alone take full responsibility for and absolve Sterling Metal Works, it's owner, it's employees, etc, of any liability should something go wrong, whether the consequences are just merely frustrating or out right horrible.
SMW Limited Warranty
A conditional thirty day money back warrantee is included with the purchase of any rebuilt or modified Sterling Nikki carburetor. The purchaser of a Nikki carburetor, rebuilt, reconditioned, or modified by Sterling Metal Works (SMW), has thirty days from the date upon receiving the carburetor to return it to SMW for any reason of dissatisfaction for a full refund of the original money paid. Shipping remains the purchaser's obligation, and the carburetor must be returned to SMW within 30 days from receipt. Shipping tracking logs will serve as confirmation of the dates of receipt and returns, should a dispute arise. It is the purchasers responsibility to obtain, record, and provide this information. The carburetor must be undamaged*, and SMW reserves the right to deny a return of funds in full if the returned carburetor is found to be damaged, either by the purchaser or due to improper packaging. SMW will refund the full purchase price within 30 days upon receiving the returned carburetor, only if these criterion are met. An itemized bill of sale will demonstrate the value of any additional components that were received with a shipment, and the value of such additional components will be deducted from the refund if they are not returned with the carburetor.** These may include, but are not limited to; jets***, emulsion tubes, extraneous components, gasket sets, floats, and carburetor cores. All craftsmanship and parts are guaranteed. Components found to be defective may be returned separately from the carburetor for replacement free of charge up to thirty days after purchase. Replaced components will be the same model and manufacturer as the returned component. Emissions compliancy is neither implied nor guaranteed for any carburetor built, modified, or refurbished by SMW.
Additional conditions that void this warranty:
*This warrantee does NOT cover twisted primary throttle shafts, twisted or bent linkage components, stripped jet threads, or other damages deemed by SMW to have been incurred during installation or as a result of mis-adjusted cables or over-tightened threaded components.
**Components used by SMW for refurbishing and modifying Nikki carburetors may not be genuine Mazda or Hitachi components. ***Though fuel and air jets are genuine Holley components, they may have been altered for use in the Sterling Nikki application. SMW is not a certified Holley dealer, nor is it affiliated with Holley. Return defective jets to SMW only. Do not send components to Holley for refunds.
This warranty is exclusive of the SMW Core Exchange policy. All core refunds issued are final, irregardless of the SMW Limited Warranty, or any refunds issued by SMW under the warranty. It is for this reason that SMW carburetor customers are encouraged to keep their original (core) carburetors until the limited warranty time of 30 days has expired. Few performance parts businesses will offer such a warranty as this. To take full advantage of this warranty, it is highly recommended that SMW customers familiarize themselves completely with the SMW Core Exchange Policy below, as well as the SMW Shipping & Handling suggestions.
SMW Core Exchange Policy
A core charge of $80.00 is added to the price of the SMW Nikki carburetors. This $80.00 charge is refunded to the purchaser in the form of a check from Sterling Metal Works (SMW) upon receiving a core carburetor; typically, but not necessarily the original carburetor that was on the vehicle. Core carburetors must meet the same list of criterion defined in the SMW Limited Warranty. The core carburetor must be free of damage to be eligible for a full refund of $80.00. Damages that lessen the value of a core carburetor include, but are not limited to;
The SMW Core Exchange policy works in tandem with the SMW Limited Warranty. Purchasers of either a modified Nikki carburetor (Sterling Nikki) or a refurbished Nikki carburetor have 30 days from receiving the carburetor to return it for a full refund if dissatisfied, after which, if they are satisfied, they can then choose to send their core carburetor to SMW for the core refund. The core refund is a transaction, and there are no returns. Once I have sent payment, the carburetor you sent to me is immediately broken down and cycled through to be used for future Sterling Nikki production. I CANNOT RETURN YOUR CARBURETOR! I do not wait for the check to be cashed, either. I also reserve the right not to buy the core you send me. If you send me an unusable doorstop of a Nikki carburetor, I will offer to send you a check for little more than the cost of shipping it back, and if you decline that offer, I will simply send it back. Carburetors that have been abused are of little use to me and are a waste of my time.
Selecting a Core
Most carburetors I receive for modification are dirty and coated with years of oil and dust. This is to be expected, and actually is a welcome site upon opening a shipment, because it indicates that the carburetor was probably functioning relatively recently, if not right up until it was removed. Oil is a great preservative of the metal's surface, and rarely do I encounter a seriously corroded carburetor that is also coated with oil saturated dust. However, on occasion I receive carburetors that have serious corrosion problems, and appear to have been obtained from a salvage yard where years of the elements have begun to rust the linkage and pit the air horn and main body. Such carburetors often have screws so badly corroded that extreme measures are needed for removal. Brass jets may be corroded to the point where precision orifices are no longer within manufactured tolerances. In some cases, accelerator pump check balls require back-circuit drilling to remove, or else the carburetor main body is rendered useless. I've also received numerous carburetors that have vital pieces of linkage missing. When I first began modifying the Nikki carburetor, I took pride in the fact that I could resurrect almost any piece of crap that was sent to me. After having done a few, as well as the number-crunching afterwards, the novelty has worn off. I understand that many of my customers will need to drive their rotary cars during the time it takes me to modify a carburetor for them. But if this is the case for you, please select a carburetor that meets the following criteria;
A carburetor that you salvage yourself from a vehicle is a better bet for straight shafts and complete linkage than one that someone else has. If a salvage yard employee has removed it for you, be sure to check the shafts for complete linkage, motion, and straightness. Don't be shy about it, either. (He's not going to be shy about handing it to you even if he dropped it!) If you purchase a carburetor from someone else, you don't know the history of the carburetor as far as what may have been modified on it. Be especially concerned with the completeness of the linkage in these cases. You need not open the carburetor to inspect it before sending it to me, as the external appearance is almost always a good indication of what the inside is like. You really shouldn't have to spend more than three minutes inspecting the carburetor before shipping it. Minor problems are par for the course for this kind of business, so by no means does a customer's core carburetor need be in perfect condition. It just shouldn't look obviously neglected or abused.
I understand and agree to all of the conditions described above...
